  Michael H. Smith

Former insurance agent turned contractor, Michael H. (Mike) Smith , is now a writer and carpenter who lives in Greene County and routinely makes a nuisance of himself.  Politicians and bureaucrats are frequent targets of his vitriol as he writes quips and barbs to the editor of the local weekly papers.

He now divides his time between carpentry, clerking in the local hardware store, and writing a book on economics.  If all that is not enough he has just inaugurated the Turkey Ridge University by teaching an impromptu course called "The Roots of American Order" based on the book of the same name by late Russell Kirk.

The first class had three students.  All of them are charter inductees at Turkey Ridge University and, if they finish the course, will be automatically awarded PhD's in American Conservatism.  The university is accredited by the Mutton Hollow Accreditation Board.

The Chancellor, Mr. Smith, a Virginia native of obscure origins, was recently awarded a BA in Political Science at Franciscan University at Steubenville, Ohio.  He is now applying for board certification in political pathology -- examining the corpse of the American experiment in self government.  His book, the working title of which is "Economics For Grownups" or "Let Them Eat Cake" is due out in the fall -- of whatever year you may choose.  It will sell in the millions and make him rich and famous.
